My Italian Journey
Sitting in an airport I received a call from my Finance Steve who had managed to talk to Julie McKenzie, She was in Santa ‘Twinkle Town’ Maria doing her magic, it was August 2013 and Steve and I were anxious to book our wedding for the next year. Julie promised to contact us upon her return to the UK in one week.
We dreamt of a small affair, on a beach was a must and with old quaint roads and village life surrounding us. We only planned to invite a handful of people to share our day.
Sure enough Julie contacted us about 10th September, Steve and I smiled away whilst Julie explained the possibilities of a wedding in Santa Maria..
We booked our date 26th July 2014…Emailed our nearest and dearest and set about planning the best day of our lives EVER.
We initially met Julie in Liverpool for an Italian themed coffee, she was super happy and smiley and I knew we would get on well, it’s so important to have the one!!
The day came and we flew out to Santa Maria via Naples to collect the car! As soon as we arrived in Santa Maria, we marvelled at the beauty of the place. The first evening we had the most amazing Storm too! Julie, Steve and I met for drinks on our balcony; we discussed all our plans and wishes for our wedding day, but Julie had it all covered.
We had a few days to enjoy Italy without Family and then our Wedding Eve arrived, a beautiful meal up in the hills for all 14 of us (small wedding party).
Steve and I said our goodbyes on the evening before the wedding and my maid of Honour and I stayed at La Belle Vie, a beautiful boutique hotel on the seafront. The rooms were spacious and bright and it was a perfect place for us to prepare for the wedding.
The day arrived with a thunder storm but we were not deterred, off to the spa the bridal party went what a fantastic recommendation from Julie.
Four PM and it was time to get ready, I had opted to get ready with my bridesmaid and honorary maid of honour
We spent the afternoon preparing our hair and make up whilst enjoying a glass of prosecco. OurFlowers arrived and were truly wonderful, my favourite Gypsophilia and Peonies. I arrived at the Lido approx. 7pm, walking down the path to the Lido with my dad and girls it was wonderful – the sun was setting and we were accompanied by the guitar and mandolin too. Steve and I were dubious about being serenaded but it was so fitting, again we trusted Julie to make the day of our dreams.
As I arrived at the beach, the setting was so perfect with every detail planned to perfection, just as we had envisaged it. Words cannot describe the event, Wonderful, Amazing, speechless, all of our party were very emotional at such a heartfelt and romantic ceremony.
After the wedding, we walked on through the town soaking up the Italian atmosphere led by Julie who was always on hand to steer us the right way and make the day everything we dreamed it would be.
Our evening meal and party was the topping on the cake, the crème de la crème, again exactly what we wanted, a beach setting with food family dancing and fireworks, no detail was left out no idea was forgotten.
Thank you Julie for all your wonderfulness and dedication to us and our wedding, you are a friend of to us all and we will continue our friendship forever
